The forklift is a material handling device utilized to raise and move loads from one place to another. Each and every part of a forklift has a particular function. Different components could be used to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lift and lower the load. There are various kinds of masts utilized for lifting loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated inside the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located within the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights situated at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
