Types of Hydraulic Cranes
Amongst the most common cranes in the construction industry is hydraulic cranes. They are used to build everything from freeway overpasses and roadways to buildings and skyscrapers.
Cranes come in a wide variety of units, sizes and styles. These various units allow both the owner and operators to carry out many more functions in their business. Choosing the right type of crane is really crucial for making sure that the material could be efficiently and safely moved to the location it has to get to in order for the construction process to begin.
Truck Cranes
Truck cranes would normally have 2 different cabs. One cab is used to drive the truck unit when in transport mode, whilst the other is for controlling the crane. These cranes are very useful for building sites where a crane is required in many different places for the duration of the build. This is due to the fact that the crane could be driven easily from one location to another.
Cranes can also be transported to different construction locations on the road since they drive themselves, which eliminates the need for extra transport vehicles. Being able to travel on their own greatly lessens transport costs at the end of the day.
One drawback of a truck crane is that it is not stable enough sitting on tires alone in order to be able to lift the major loads that a hydraulic crane could handle. Hence, to be able to fix this issue, outriggers can be extended from the deck. The outriggers make use of hydraulic pressure in order to slightly lift the truck off of the ground, making it balanced and stable.
Crawler-Mounted Cranes
Crawler cranes feature large tracks on the bottom of the crane. These massive tracks are similar to the ones seen on other construction equipment such as backhoes and bulldozers. The tracks allow the crane to successfully move around a construction locations.
