Tower Crane Parts
Tower cranes enable the construction industry to build various wonderful structures. These cranes have been utilized to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes offer the means to transport and raise building parts, supplies and tools all around a construction site. There are various parts which assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together uses various pieces of construction equipment.
Base
The tower crane base is usually made from a steel unit. The units' base attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This set-up gives the structure stability. Generally, the construction should be well engineered and built in order to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The mast of the tower crane provides height to the machine. The mast is made of attached steel sections. The amount of sections determines the crane's height. Usually, a tower crane has a design that enables the mast to grow during construction by adding more parts as the building process continues. This way the crane's height could be specified, making sure that it has adequate height to efficiently and safely perform the needed work.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is located at the top of the mast. This unit houses the machinery and the motor which allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machine that allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber allow the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
The term "boom", refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made up of individual steel sections which are connected together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the underside that could run the length of the boom. This particular trolley has the hoisting device.
