History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was first founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group acquired a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
