Before buying a new or used forklift, there are several things that you should take into account. Consider the following things before choosing.
Step 1: What are your needs?
Knowing both the types and weight of your loads must be taken into account. Think about the maximum lifting height which you will require. Determine whether you would be utilizing the forklift outdoors or indoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What would be the duration of use per day when it comes to hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best choice?
Buying a used forklift is a good idea if you would only utilize it four hours the most per day.
Step 3: Fuel options
As electric forklifts are relatively quiet and produce no exhaust emissions, they are recommended for indoor use. They have large batteries that should last eight hours before you need to recharge it. The purchase cost of electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not need space for fuel storage. They also tend to last longer because they have less moving components. However, the time it takes to recharge the battery has to be factored in. This can take up to 16 hours, including cooling and recharging. And battery recharging stations may be required.
Step 4: Tire choice
Forklifts have cushion tires. There are some options when it comes to tires. Some are fabricated of solid rubber, a few are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor operation, cushion tires are suggested. For outdoor operation, pneumatic tires are best. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp objects so they are the best alternative for risky conditions.
Step 5: Think about additional alternatives
Additional alternatives should be considered when purchasing a new or used forklift truck. Look at the different attachments which you might need to customize your forklift. Check out the safety features and ergonomics of the forklift
Step 6: Evaluate your alternatives
It is a good idea to rent different brands and models and know what suits your requirements the best. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This would ensure that the model you ultimately purchase is the correct one for all your needs. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
