Different Kinds of Aerial Lift
A particular kind of heavy machinery that allows a person to be lifted into the air is aerial lifts. These machinery are typically used to perform repairs on places which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Similar to nearly all devices, there are various types of aerial lifts that could be utilized to carry out various tasks. For the utmost safety, each kind of different type of equipment needs right training and specific qualifications before operating it.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are normally referred to as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic form of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is lifted up utilizing pneumatic power and are mostly used for indoor applications. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts are capable of being driven similar to large carts. Usually, when the platform is extended, they are not able to be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody can use these devices, workers need to be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complicated pieces of aerial lift equipment. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box situated in the bucket which allows the operator to raise and lower the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it could also move from side to side. The boom lift looks like a tail of a metal scorpion. Traditionally, it is used in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to operate compared to scissor lifts, therefore, operators need to be certified individually for these kinds of lifts.
