A stock picker, also referred to as an order picker is a machinery which is quite like a forklift. It enables the operator to use forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain things, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Typically, order pickers are powered by electricity. These equipment are mainly utilized in a warehouse setting. Most often they are used for transporting pallets and doing particular jobs in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of the oder picker sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the equipment forward, backward or steer it from side to side. As soon as the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades can be lifted up to the required level that makes it convenient for the operator. For instance, if the required materials, are located on a shelf which the operator could not reach, then entire platform is capable of being lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then directed or driven to its next location. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, although, some companies might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers in the name of safety. An order picker is also able to place pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers could be used to complete these specific tasks at some companies instead.
